Sweet Acres Park, Rosebery
This 500 square metre park At Rosebery was named for the site's original use as the John Stedman Henderson Sweets Lts Factory, which produced confectionary until 1918. The park was built for the City of Sydney, and it aimed to produce as much program and diversity of recreational use as possible for a medium-sized urban park.
The park's features encircled a large open grass space that is the base requirement of most parks. Large shade trees, native massed planting, a small playground, seating and BBQ areas are arranged around the open area. A circuit connects these spaces and doubles as a low-speed children's bike loop.
This urban park is loved and well used by the residents, whose population has greatly increased with the urban redevelopment of Rosebery. Sweetacres Park is a response to providing a variety of recreational needs for this burgeoning population. Project leader while at Aspect Studios.
